Double or Nothing

Lesson 2/26 | Study Time: 5 Min
Double or Nothing

Double or Nothing

Double Or Nothing is similar to the The First Step except rhythm stops are used on the first verse. In the first four bars only the first strum is played. This solo is in the key of C. The I, IV and V chords will be C, F and G. The accompanying rhythm part is included here.

Rock Guitar Pattern One - Key of C

The Minor Pentatonic scale - Rock Guitar Pattern One in the key of C is positioned between the 8th and 11th frets.

Double-Note Licks

A popular lick to employ for a Rock solo is the double-note lick. A double-note lick is when two notes within the same pattern are played at the same time.

The following diagram highlights some of the common double-note licks which may be used within Rock Pattern One. Note the two extra notes added to the pattern.

Try the following lick that can be heard at the beginning of Double or Nothing. Note: The two extra notes found on the 3rd and 2nd strings are taken from the Major Pentatonic scale that is featured later in this book. It is also worth noting that this lick begins 1p beats before the rhythm track.

In the final bar of this lick keep the note on the second string held down as the third finger bends the 3rd string, to the same pitch as the note on the 2nd string.

The lead guitar solo to Double or Nothing is played solely within the Minor Pentatonic Scale, Rock Pattern One in the key of C and features double-note licks.
This solo is played to a strict straight eighth note feel and makes use of hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends and vibrato.
