The next solo is also a Blues-Rock solo. Railroad Avenue is in the key of G and as with most Blues music has a strong triplet feel. This solo is sixteen bars in length and begins with a two bar intro.
The Blues scale pattern used in the previous solo was a combination of Patterns One and Two. The other Blues pattern that is often used is formed by combining Patterns Three, Four and Five. This pattern is similar to the Minor Pentatonic combination pattern shown in the lesson for Solo 6 except the extra note is added to complete the Blues scale.
The following example ascends and descends the second combination Blues scale shown in the previous diagram. Attention should be given to the left hand fingering.
Example 31 is a Blues lick played within the combination Blues scale just shown.
Railroad Avenue begins with this two bar introduction lick. Practice this lick until you can play it note perfectly.
The solo to Railroad Avenue is in the key of G and uses a triplet feel. The solo begins within the first Blues scale combination pattern ( Lesson 8 ) before moving to the second Blues scale combination pattern as introduced in this lesson.
