INTRODUCTION

Lesson 2/38 | Study Time: 5 Min
INTRODUCTION

Progressive Beginner Blues Guitar Licks features a wide variety of Licks and Solos incorporating styles and techniques used by the world’s greatest Blues players. Licks are set out in a progressive manner to assist Blues guitar players of all levels.

It will be necessary to have some basic knowledge of guitar before tackling the examples in this book. Many of the licks work over different parts of the 12-Bar Blues progression along with others which can be played over different progressions and one chord grooves, resulting in many options for improvising. The book includes sections on turnarounds, intros and endings, playing over stops, call and response, and the use of dynamics. Covers all the important scales and arpeggios used in Blues. The licks cover a variety of styles such as shuffles, traditional slow Blues, Jazz style Blues, along with R&B and Funk grooves. The book also includes several solos demonstrating how the licks and techniques in each section can be used to create whole solos. Many of the licks and solos are written in the styles of Blues legends like BB King, Albert Collins, Otis Rush, Peter Green and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

To improve your skills even further it is recommended that you use a metronome or drum machine with all the examples in the book. It would also be helpful to play along with the recording that accompanies the book. If you are serious about music, a good teacher can often help you progress much quicker than you can on your own.

Keep practicing, keep playing and have fun.
