Playing notes: This waltz introduces time, which is three eighth note beats per bar.

In line 3 (bars 17-24) the left hand remains in the second position throughout, as indicated by the fingering.
Playing notes: Use rest stroke for the melody and be sure to alternate the right hand fingers i-m i-m etc. In bars 9 and 10 the bass notes are played on the "and" portion of the first beat. This "off" beat playing is referred to as syncopation. Note the use of the tie (refer to Lesson 6), where the second E note (in bar 10) is held, but not played.
