When the treble and bass staves are joined together by a line and a bracket, they are called a grand staff.

Continue to write the names of the notes above examples in this book until you can "read" them at a glance. Use a pencil so that you can erase the note names and test your memory as it improves.
These keyboard diagrams show typical ranges of the six basic voice types. Remember that voice range are individual and that your own may fall between any of the traditional categories. Another important thing to keep in mind is that these are voice ranges of fully developed singing voices. When you start learning to sing you may have a smaller range than those shown here. Many tenors have larger ranges than the one shown here. Listen to the recording to hear the highest and lowest notes of each range.
