Learning to sing Jazz well takes many years. We have only scratched the surface in this book. However, as long as you keep listening, imitating and improvising, you will see great improvements in your singing. To finish this section on Jazz, here is a 48 bar vocal solo sung over the Bb Blues we have been using.
Learn it and then try writing some of the phrases and syllables on the staves shown. Notice how the singer keeps coming back to the melody and lyrics as a springboard for improvisation. If you are singing several songs in succession and improvising on them, this technique helps make each song unique as well as giving you a context for improvised phrases and solos.
