Major Scales

Lesson 2/43 | Study Time: 5 Min
Major Scales

Major Scales

Although major scales on their own are not used much in Funk, there are many Soul songs in major keys, and quite a few of the fills and embellishments to the chords use the major scale. For this reason they are included here. The Major scale is also the origin of the mixolydian and dorian modes. (To find out more about modes and how they relate to the major scale, see Progressive Scales and Modes for Guitar). Here are the five forms of the major scale in G.

E Form

This is the only example for the sound of the major scale. By now you should be comfortable enough with the five forms concept to work the others out by simply following the diagrams of the other forms.
