Picking Four Notes Together

It is also common practice to pick four strings simultaneously. This is when the right hand fingers pick three strings at the same time as the right hand thumb picks a bass note.

This right hand technique is applied in example 5. The root six minor bar chord Gm is used. Try to pick all strings as evenly as possible so each string has the same volume and tone.

Root six major and minor bar chords are used in the next progression. Each chord is played using the technique shown above, playing four strings together.

The root five minor bar chord Cm is featured next. Example 7 uses a combination of root six and root four bar chord shapes.

Try creating your own progressions using the four chord types featured so far. Practice each progression, first using a basic strumming pattern and then try applying the bass chord style to the same progression.
