First and Second Endings

To finish this section, here is a solo which makes use of everything you have learned up to this point. Learn it from memory and practice it along with a metronome. You should also experiment with the rhythms and phrases from the solo to create your own ideas and improvise with them.

By now you should be improvising as part of your daily practice. This solo begins with three lead-in (or pickup) notes, which are notes that occur before the first full bar. When a lead-in or pickup is used, the final bar of the section is also incomplete. The notes in the lead-in and the final bar add up to one full bar.

The solo also contains first and second endings. The first time you play through the song, play the first ending (Z), then go back to the beginning. The second time you play through the song, play the second ending (X) instead of the first.
