You have already learnt many Blues melodies played over several variations on the 12 bar Blues progression. Shown below is the most basic form of 12 bar Blues in the key of C. This type of soloing works well with a Chicago, Texas or Jump Blues band.
In these musical situations, scale substitutions and outside playing are generally undesirable and detract from the music. The most important thing when playing with any band is to use your ears and play what is appropriate to the context.
Here is a similar set of Blues changes with a few more chords. Again, this is straight Blues rather than Jazz Blues, so the lines come from Dominant 7th arpeggios and the Blues scale.
