There are three ways of moving or propelling the sticks. All three are used at different times when playing, each having advantages and disadvantages. Note: Part (a) in each case illustrates the left hand of the traditional grip method. Part (b) illustrates the right hand of the traditional grip method (which as explained earlier is the same for both hands of the matched grip method).
An arm stroke is where the forearm or sometimes the entire arm is used to propel the stick.
The wrist stroke is the most frequently used of the 3 strokes and as the name suggests, uses the wrist to propel the stick.
The finger stroke is the most difficult to master of the 3 strokes and as the name suggests, uses the fingers to propel the stick.
