Many instruments such as piano, guitar or clarinet can play notes which are at a particular pitch. These notes have names like A B C D E F and G. Most drums and percussion instruments don’t have these exact notes, but they still produce a variety of higher and lower sounds.
For example, a bass drum has a low sound (boom), a snare drum has a higher sound (crack), and a triangle has an even higher sound (ting). Notice also that the lower sounding notes appear low on the staff and the higher sounding notes appear higher on the staff.
