Licks 24a and 24b demonstrate the use of slides on the harmonica to form licks. Note that each lick begins with three slides in an upward direction, timed so that the highest note of the slide is reached exactly as the beat occurs.
This is followed by silent beats, then with a series of two slides which travel both up and back down before beginning another slide that only travels in the upward direction, as notated.
Lick 24c provides an excellent ending to a twelve bar blues verse. It requires a slide to the 5i that arrives on the 5i exactly on the beat, then a slide down to the 1. When used at the end of a verse, extra 1i notes are often added, as at the end of Solo Exercise 24.
Combine the new sliding licks 24a and 24b with the original Slide to Four Blues solo, then use lick 24c with extra 1i notes to end each of the two verses. In the first verse, the new added slide licks are in an upwards direction only. In the second verse, the new added slide licks travel both up and down.
