The shuffle rhythm is a variation of triplet timing. It is created by not playing the middle note of the triplet group. This can be achieved by using a tie or an eighth rest, e.g.: if the middle note of the triplet in the riff is removed, the following shuffle rhythms are created.
Apply these two shuffle rhythms against a 12 Bar Blues progression.
The following riff uses a shuffle rhythm in the first beat of each bar. The last beat of the second bar is played staccato as indicated by the dot placed below it. Staccato means to play short and separate.
