The following major key progressions contain major and minor chords. Some also contain major seventh (Maj7) and minor seventh (min7) chords. To improvise against these major key progressions, find the "keynote" of the piece, which is the same as the starting chord of each piece. This time however, position Pattern 1 3 frets lower (on the 6th string) than the keynote. Example 285 uses a progression commonly found in ballads. Once again, record yourself playing each progression and then improvise over the play back.
The following major key progressions contain only major chords that are the same chords used in a 12 Bar Blues. For these type of progressions you can begin Pattern 1 on the same fret as the keynote (for a more bluesy sound), or 3 frets below the keynote for a more melodic sound.
