The Counter Hoop or Rim

The counter hoop or rim is usually made of chrome plated rolled steel, and fits over the head to secure it to the drum shell.

The number of holes in the rim varies with the drum size and quality. More holes in the rim allow for better control when tuning the drum.

Bass drum hoops do not have any holes in them, and are held onto the drum with claw shaped clamps.
