After reading SECTION 1, you should have a reasonable understanding of the parts that make up a drum and how they work.
Of course there are many different styles and designs amongst the various brands available. Although some designs may look different to the diagrams in this book, the same basic principals of how a drum works, still apply.
You will discover that even though the quality varies enormously from beginner kits, that most of the sound quality produced is determined by the tuning, the choice of heads, and the type of dampening used.
The snare is the only drum which really does change quite dramatically in sound according to the quality of the drum, and once again, heads, tuning and dampening play a major part.
