The Slide (Marked Sand/or G)

The Slide is a technique which involves a finger moving along the string to its new note. The finger maintains pressure on the string, so that a continuous sound is produced until the desired note is reached.

The left hand moves from one note to the next, upwards or downwards on the fretboard.

In the following two licks the slide technique is used between two notes. In this example both E notes are played.

With the slide in Lick 3 only the first note of the slide is played, as indicated by the curved line above the two notes.

*Commence the sliding note somewhere high on the E string and slide down to the open E note.

means the duration of the quarter note with no distinguishable pitch.

As with the hammer-on technique, a quick slide can also be played, when the second note is played immediately after the first. The quick slide is written as such:
