Raking is a technique where two or more strings are played by the index or middle finger of the right hand in an upward movement (from the G to the E string). The notes are played in quick succession (like an upward strum using only one finger).
In Lick 52 and 53 the raking technique is used with harmonics on the 7th fret. Alternate between using your index and middle fingers.
The raking technique is often used to play across 2, 3, or 4 strings. Lick 54 uses raking while holding an Em chord shape.
The next three licks are more like bass runs across the strings using raking in combination with different left hand notes. Lick 55 uses only the 1st and 2nd fingers of the left hand. Lick 56 uses the 1 st and 3rd fingers of the left hand. Use the same right hand fingerings to play Lick 56 and 57.
Lick 57 uses a combination of 1st, 4th and 2nd fingers of the left hand.
The licks below combine raking and hammer-ons.
