Progressive Rock Piano has been designed to introduce the basics of playing Rock piano and reading music to the student who has no previous musical knowledge. All the lessons have been carefully graded into an easy-to-follow, step-by-step format.
The book contains an extensive repertoire of well known Rock chord progressions, incorporating chord, melody and riff playing with both left and right hands.
Basic music theory has been discussed throughout to help you fully understand what you are playing. Theory can often be applied to solve practical problems and aid in the speed of your development.
This book will show you the chord shapes used by all Rock keyboard players. It will also show you how to play these chords in different keys and styles, to prepare you for playing in your own group
The book contains two appendices which discuss in detail music theory, Rock scales, Blues scales, chord construction, substitution and transposing. A basic chord chart section and glossary of musical terms are also included.
It is important to have a correct approach to practice. You will benefit more from several short practices (e.g., 30 minutes per day) than one or two long sessions per week. In a practice session you should divide your time evenly between the study of new material and the revision of past work. It is a common mistake for semi-advanced students to practice only the songs they can already play well. Although this is more enjoyable it is not a very efficient method of practice. The guidance of an experienced teacher, especially in the early stage, will be an invaluable aid to your progress.
