There are two inversions plus the root position of the Dm chord. The following three diagrams illustrate the root position (1 b3 5), the first inversion (b3 5 1), and the second inversion (5 1 b3) of the Dm chord.
The following exercise uses both of the inversions for the Dm chord. Use the correct fingering as shown in the diagrams.
A triplet is a group of three notes played in the same time as two notes of the same kind. E.g., an eighth note triplet consists of three eighth notes played in the same time as you would play two eighth notes. Eighth note triplets are indicated by three eighth notes grouped together by a curved line and the numeral 3, as shown. Triplets are easy to understand once you have heard them played.
In the following exercise the chords are played with the right hand in arpeggio style using a triplet rhythm.
In the following exercise the chords are played as triplets on the second beat of each measure. The dot above the chords on beats 1, 3 and 4 indicate that they should be played staccato (i.e., cut short).
