Across the Bar

Lesson 2/53 | Study Time: 5 Min
Across the Bar

Across the Bar

Another important use of ties is to sustain a note across a bar line. This type of rhythmic phrasing is another variation on syncopation used often in Blues. The following examples are all played with a swing as indicated by the count.

This example applies the tie in the middle of the bar and across the bar. The lick also incorporates double-note licks.

Now try utilizing the riff from the previous example into a full 12 bar riff.
