Tremolo

Lesson 2/53 | Study Time: 5 Min
Tremolo

Tremolo

At this point I would like to introduce one last technique known as tremolo. Tremolo is extremely rapid picking on either a single note, double-stop or chord. Develop it by playing sixteenth notes on one note and gradually increase the picking speed.

Here are some examples of tremolo. Tremolo is indicated by the symbol above the tab.

The next example is written in 12/8 time.

Along with vibrato and the trill, tremolo is one of the few techniques available for sustaining a note on the guitar. Go back through some of the earlier licks and solos in this book and find other places you think tremolo might sound good.

The following two slow Blues licks are in 12/8 time. Each lick works over a different part of the 12 Bar Blues progression.
