Shifting is a technique moving on the fretboard from one note to another while maintaining a light pressure on the string. To execute a shift is very similar to the slide except when the desired note is reached it will be played again. When practising shifts make sure that your thumb moves simultaneously with your hand.
The following examples use the chromatic scale, the major scale and the major intervals on one string only. Practice each example slowly and on one finger before transposing it onto different strings and other fingers.
