Another common chord type is the major sixth chord. A sixth chord consists of four notes taken from the major scale of the same letter name. These notes are the first (1), third (3), fifth (5) and sixth (6) notes of the major scale, so the chord formula for the sixth chord is:
Notice that the sixth chord is simply a major chord with the sixth degree added. The C6 arpeggio with inversions is shown here.
Here is a bass line which makes use of a C6 arpeggio. This is a typical line which is used in many styles of music including Blues, R&B and Jazz, Gospel and Rock. Experiment with these arpeggios and create some of your own lines based on them.
