The following example is played as a shuffle, which means a constant stream of swing eighth notes. Shuffles are very common in Blues and related styles such as Jazz and Rock. Most of the notes on the beat can be played staccato even though it is not notated. The expressions used in a bass line are often left up to the individual player.
Example 90 is a variation of the previous one incorporating swing eighth notes and triplets into the shuffle.
Example 91 is based upon the same chord progression as the previous example, but this time rests are used to create a staccato feel.
