The suspended chord consists of three notes taken from the major scale. The symbol for a suspended chord are the letters sus (or sus4), placed after the letter name of the chord. These notes are the first (1), fourth (4) and fifth (5) of the major scale, so the chord formula for the suspended chord is:
Notice that the suspended chord is simply a major chord with the fourth substituted for the third. The following diagrams show arpeggio patterns and inversions of the Fsus4 chord.
