In this book two basic chord progressions are introduced; 12 Bar Blues and turnarounds (1 and 2). These two progressions are the basis of many songs from the fifties onwards, some of which can be found in the following list.

Some of the songs listed under turnarounds vary from the basic structure of this progression. For example, the turnaround progression may be used in the verses, but not in the chorus. It is also common to have each chord in the progression lasting more than one bar or less than one bar (i.e., half a bar of each chord, as in Lesson 16 ).
