The Whip

The Whip

The whip is the reverse of the trail off. Instead of starting with a specific note and then sliding away from it, the whip can start anywhere on the string before quickly sliding up to the desired note. The note is then cut off immediately. Any note where a whip is to be used will have a reverse trail off marking along with a dot indicating staccato. Here are some examples demonstrating the use of the whip.
