The following diagrams show two more 9th chord shapes, along with a 13th chord which is also commonly used in Funk. This 13th chord voicing can easily be achieved by playing the familiar 9th chord and extending the fourth finger out two frets on the 1st string. As with other chords, be sure to play these new ones in all positions on the fretboard.

E13
The following examples show some common uses of these chords.
E9
Here is another useful 9th chord voicing. This one can sometimes be difficult to locate correctly, since it does not contain the root note. The root can be found on the 6th string at the same fret as the third finger.
With this shape it is also possible to slide the upper three notes to create the same effect as the one shown in example 134, but in a different position on the fretboard. Notice the difference in tone between the two positions used.
This one uses the new 9th chord shape along with other chords found in the same area on the fretboard.
