Sliding whole chords from one fret to another is a commonly used technique in Funk. Here is an example of this technique using a 9th chord and a 7th chord.
Here are two more examples making use of sliding chords. As you can hear, it’s a very effective sound.

Here is a 12 bar Blues progression moving 9th and 7th chords around on the fretboard. In this example, only the top three notes of the 9th chord are used to slide up. This is a very common technique in Funk.
