Ties
Ties are a method of increasing the time values of notes. A tie is indicated by a curved line connecting two consecutive notes of the same pitch. Ties, along with rests, are commonly used to create syncopated rhythms.
Syncopation means displacing the normal flow of accents, usually from on the beat to off the beat. In the following example, a tie is used to connect two quarter notes, thus giving the first note the value of two beats.
In this example, two notes are tied together. Count carefully with this one.
