Here are some movable major 9th chord shapes shown in the first four frets. As with previous chord types, learn each shape and then transpose it to all keys.
This progression can be played by moving one shape up and down the fretboard, or groups of two shapes, or four different shapes. Try each of these methods.
A dominant 9th chord (usually just called a ninth chord) is created by adding a 9th degree to any dominant 7th chord. For example, a C9 chord contains the notes C, E, G, Bb and D (1, 3, 5, b7 and 9). The following diagrams demonstrate some common open ninth chord shapes.
