Here are some useful eleventh chord shapes shown in the first four frets. As with previous chord types learn each shape and then transpose it to all keys.
When the notes of an 11th chord are picked separately, it can sound good to include the 3rd of the chord as shown here. However, when all the notes are played together, the 3rd is usually omitted, or if the 3rd is essential, a sharp 11 degree is used.
A minor eleventh chord is created by adding an 11th degree to any minor 9th chord. For example, a Cm11 chord contains the notes C, Eb, G, Bb, D and F (1, b3, 5, b7, 9 and 11). The following diagrams show some common open minor 11th chord shapes.
