Here are some useful movable 13th chord shapes shown in the first four frets. As with previous chord types, learn each shape and then transpose it to all keys.
The following Jazz Blues is played almost exclusively with thirteenth chords. Once again you could use several different shapes, or stick with one shape and move it up and down the fretboard to find the various chords. Practice both approaches with the voicings shown in the previous diagrams.
A minor thirteenth chord is created by adding a 13th degree to any minor11th chord. For example, a Cm13 chord contains the notes C, Eb, G, Bb, D, F and A (1, b3, 5, b7, 9, 11 and 13). The following diagrams show some common open min13th chord shapes.
