A sixteenth note rhythm consists of four strums per beat, a total of sixteen strums per bar.
An accent is applied to the first strum in each group of four.
Alternating up and downstrums can be used for sixteenth note rhythms.
Now try applying the sixteenth note rhythm to a chord progression.
In order to produce a heavier more aggressive sound, try using downstrokes on every strum of a sixteenth note rhythm (example 49).
Then try applying this strumming technique to the chord progression in example 50. Quarter note triplets are also featured.
Sixteenth note rhythm variations are achieved by eliminating some of the strums within a bar. Practice the following examples and then try applying the rhythms to a chord progression.
