Arpeggio Picking

An interesting effect to incorporate into a Metal rhythm is arpeggio picking. Arpeggio picking is the playing of individual strings, one at a time within a chord. The left hand forms the chord and the right hand picks each string, usually to a pattern.

Try incorporating the previous example into a basic progression. Notice the use of the G/B chord as well as quarter note triplets.

There are many variations on arpeggio picking. Experiment with different chords and picking the strings in a different order to create different patterns. It is also possible to incorporate into an arpeggio pattern techniques such as the hammer-on, slide, bend etc. In example 57 a hammer-on is used.

This example combines the previous example with a sixteenth note rhythm.
