Practice each pattern until you can play it easily at a slow tempo, and then try increasing the setting on your metronome two points at a time until you can play them along with the CD.
In order to produce a heavier more aggressive sound, try using downstrokes on every strum of the sixteenth note rhythm shown in the following example.
Here are some examples which make use of eighth and sixteenth notes in various combinations. Take each one slowly at first and count out loud until you are confident with the timing.
