Introduction

Lesson 2/64 | Study Time: 5 Min
Introduction

Progressive Complete Fingerpicking Guitar Method is the ultimate manual for learning how to fingerpick. This book covers many styles including Folk, Country, Blues, Ragtime and Jazz, and teaches all the popular left and right hand techniques used in traditional and contemporary fingerpicking guitar styles. This book is suitable for both beginning fingerpickers as well as experienced fingerpickers who wish to broaden their knowledge of fingerpicking guitar.

All right hand fingerpicking styles are covered such as the alternating thumb style, Country bass style, arpeggio style, constant bass line style, bass chord style etc. As you work your way through the book the progressions and basic fingerpicking styles are expanded upon with the introduction of many left hand and right hand techniques. You will learn how to choose a fingerpicking pattern to accompany a song and also how to incorporate a melody into a fingerpicking pattern.

The earlier lessons deal mainly with traditional Folk and Country styles, an ideal starting point for developing a solid foundation in fingerpicking. You will learn many picking patterns, your first left hand techniques and accompaniments to many well known traditional Folk and Country songs.

The next group of lessons are dedicated to the Blues fingerpicking style. At this stage you will learn how to expand on your technique with more left hand techniques, bass line techniques and using other positions of the fretboard.

Ragtime guitar is then covered, a popular fingerpicking style that was originally played on piano. Ragtime rhythms and techniques are covered and you will learn many great sounding Ragtime solos including several classic Rags.

The final style covered in this book is Jazz fingerstyle. Advanced techniques are introduced as well as many Jazz chord shapes. You will learn the single note style and how to combine single notes with Jazz chords. Included in this section are Jazz arrangements of several traditional Jazz songs.

The final lessons in the book deal with open tunings and contain many interesting sounding solos that use a variety of techniques studied throughout the book.

Many appendices are included at the back of the book covering scales, keys, chord construction, glossary of musical terms etc.

At the completion of this book you will have a thorough knowledge of fingerpicking guitar and will be able to make some great sounds in a fairly short time.
