A swing rhythm can be created by tying the first two notes of a triplet together. On the recording, the melody has been omitted on the repeat, leaving space for you to play what you just heard. Play along with the CD until you are comfortable with the swing feel.
The two tied notes can be replaced by a quarter note as shown below.
To simplify notation, it is common to replace the z with 6 and to write at the start of the piece 6 = z)
