The following example features both major and minor 3rd degrees, as well as the flattened 5th and 7th degrees of the C chromatic scale. The b3, b5 and b7 are known as blue notes, as they are particularly common in Blues. They can be added to any Jazz melody to create a bluesy effect. These notes are all contained in the Blues scale, which is covered in Lesson 34.
This Blues solo in the key of Bb makes use of both chromaticism and blue notes. Go through it and analyze the scale degrees against a Bb chromatic scale.
