Whenever you begin working on a new song you wish to improvise on, it is important to analyze the chord changes (chord progression) and work out which mcxies will work best over them . Once you know this, run through the modes over a recorded background of the chord changes until you are comfortable with them. This example shows a II V I progression in the key of Eb with the appropriate modes played over the chords.
