Place a on the 1st string so that it is perpendicular to the string (see photo C).
Place p on the 6th string at an angle of 45° to the string, thus forming a right angle triangle (see photo D).
Finally, place i and m on the 3rd and 2nd strings respectively, allowing them to slope into- wards a (see photo E).
Note that the fingers are not straight but are gently curved (see photo B) and that the thumb is straight and extended away from the fingers (see photo A).
Assuming that the fingernails are filed and ready for use as described earlier, you should make sure that each finger grips its string firmly between the flesh and nail. This 'gripping1 is vitally important and you should regard it, together with the above hand position, as a starting point for all right hand technique.
