Descending Ligado
(downwards slur or snap)
The descending ligado (indicated by -) is achieved by snapping any left hand finger onto an open string, i.e. Exercise A, or from a higher finger on to a lower finger, Exercise B. Make sure to anchor the lower or holding finger and pull the ligado finger sideways without distorting the note.
Observe the following:
- Prepare both left hand fingers on the string together, except of course when onto an open string.
- The lower or holding finger must press firmly and should not be pulled aside by the action of the ligado finger.
- When used on an inside string, i.e. @-^,the ligado finger executes the snap and comes to rest against the adjacent string, i.e. after the ligado is used on @ the finger rests briefly against !. This same technique is employed when more than two notes are joined by the ligado sign.
Note: move only the finger, keep the hand completely steady.
