Bring the left hand to the fingerboard and place the fingers on the first string as shown in photos A and B. Your fingers should be on their tips and placed directly behind the frets (not on top of them).
Notice how the fingers are separated to allow access to the first four frets. Also in photo A, how the wrist is quite flat and the left hand is angled away from the fretboard for the fourth finger (dotted indication). Notice also how the fingers assume an almost square shape for maximum strength and to allow each finger to bridge over adjacent strings without touching them.
