Ornaments are also called embellishments or graces (meaning to decorate the melody). The subject of ornamentation is a large one because of the vast number of forms, periods of music etc., and only the more common types will be explained in this method.
Dance in A, (pg 119) introduces the acciaccatura or crushed note which is commonly used in guitar music as a grace note. Almost no time is taken for its performance with virtually no shortening of the main (or principal) note and the beat must fall on the main note. The acciaccatura is a form of ligado, and therefore the previously practiced technique of the snap must be observed (see page 108). Further ornaments will be explained as they are encountered in the method.
