Note: Scales already studied in fifth position (page 123, C major and F major) and seventh position (page 135, D major and G major) can be duplicated in the ninth position as E major and A major, by using the same fingering two frets higher.
This means that every major scale can be duplicated this way by shifting up or down the fingerboard, i.e. fifth position, C major shifted up one fret, becomes C# or Db major (sixth position), seventh position D major shifted down one fret becomes Db or C# major, sixth position, etc.. This works by virtue of the fact that no open strings are used.
