The following examples are invaluable in establishing an independence between the thumb and fingers of the right hand.
Grip i, m and a on the third, second and first strings respectively, making sure the right hand is correctly positioned and relaxed.
1. Pluck the sixth, fifth and fourth string with p (free stroke) as notated, using the plucking action as described on page 30.
2. Without stopping, add i, m and a free stroke. The action of the thumb must not change.
3. Again, without stopping p, add the chords below.
Practice slowly and strongly. At this stage it would be beneficial to return to lesson one and re-do all examples and studies to this point using free stroke fingers.
